With everything going on in the world right now and the extra time we have being home, many people have been listening to podcasts. They are a great way to learn something new, gain ideas, and new perspectives. Here at HR Lab we have weekly discussions about a podcast we have listened to and inform each other a few things we learned from them.

Let’s take a peek into what a few of our leaders are listening to from home these days!

Kimberly, HR Coordinator

IN DEFENSE OF EXTROVERTS | TED CONFERENCES| KATHERINE LUCAS

Her cheerfulness belies her intelligence and her seniority.” Katherine was criticized at work for being a fun social spirit. She decided to change her personality. The days full of smiles and colorful outfits were gone. Meetings that were once open and welcoming were now agenda and task driven. However, changing her personality was not the answer. One specific personality trait will not lead to success. We must continuously educate ourselves about the differences in styles and approaches that are associated with other personality types. This will lead to true power — Diversity of Thinking!

Hiral, HR Coordinator

MAXIMIZE YOUR LIFE | THE MINDSET MENTOR | ROB DIAL

We all get caught up in the fast pace of our daily lives. In the midst of all responsibilities we forget how fragile life can be and how important it is to live and love the life we have been given. Rob mentioned that we are always focused on our future, but we need to focus on the present. Do something you love. Focus on one thing at a time and put all your effort into it. These efforts will eventually build the life you want, but until then do the best you can today without stress and worry. Try to make yourself proud today.

WHY YOU SHOULD DEFINE YOUR FEARS INSTEAD OF YOUR GOALS | TED TALKS DAILY | TIM FERRISS

Tim Ferriss starts the Ted Talk by telling a story about how during his senior year of college he wanted to commit suicide. He was ready to go through with his plan but a series of events held him back from doing so. What scared him most about this situation was the element of chance. After this he wanted to find a new way to deal with his emotions and he came across the concept of stoicism; the endurance of pain or hardship without the display of feelings and without complaint. Tim Ferriss suggested to ask yourself these three questions before making a decision: has anyone in history been through this? What are the benefits of doing this? If you don’t do this what will your life look like in 6 months?

TIME TO TRANSFORM | THE MINDSET MENTOR | ROB DIAL

What a mind blowing podcast and an indeed transformational episode. I am so glad Kimberly and Hiral referred me to this podcast. In this episode, Dean and Rob say that a leader’s job is to help the other person grow and helping your team members to become more

self-aware. We might think we already have self-awareness, yet there is still room for improvement. Rob shared an interesting statistic from Harvard, which states that 47% of what we do is on completely unconscious level. This means that we have so much potential and so much room to become better individuals and better professionals. Grateful for this insight, Rob and Dean!

We cannot stop raving about this practice. Try it and you will love it for it is an incredible opportunity to learn.
