With everything going on in the world right now and the extra time we have being home, many people have been listening to podcasts. They are a great way to learn something new, gain ideas, and new perspectives. Here at HR Lab we have weekly discussions about a podcast we have listened to and inform each other a few things we learned from them.

Let’s take a peek into what a few of our leaders are listening to from home these days!

HOW TO BUILD CONFIDENCE AND SPARK IT IN OTHERS| TED TALKS | BRITTANY PACKNET

Confidence tends to be underestimated as a nice to have instead of a must have. In this society, we make it easier for some people to gain confidence because they fit our preferred vision of leadership. We encourage confidence in some and punish confidence in others. Thus, many people are walking this world without it and it would be a great loss to see our best ideas go unnoticed and our dreams go unconquered just because we lack confidence. In this podcast, Brittany explains 3 ways to help overcome our challenges with confidence.

NETFLIX COFOUNDER ON HOW TO TURN DREAMS INTO REALITY |MARC RANDOLPH | THE MIND VALLEY PODCAST WITH VISHEN LAKHIANI

If you want to be inspired, then you need to listen to this podcast. The story of how Netflix came to be reminds us to appreciate where you are in the present moment. If you have a dream, you need to start trying and get your idea out there. Even if it fails, you will gain incite from it. Many people give up at this point saying they tried but the key is to take that failure and adjust it until you figure it out. The takeaway from listening to Marc is to put actions towards your dreams and never give up.

CLOSING THE DOOR ON OPEN OFFICES | THE CASE FOR CUBES | THE GROWTH MINDSET

The first open floor office design was created in 1906. Ever since the workforce has evolved, however, open floor offices are still utilized. Research shows that there is a high dissatisfaction rate among employees regarding open setups. Employees claim that they lose up to 86 minutes a day to distractions. Nowadays people want more privacy at their workplace. Employers might want to consider setting up private spaces for those who might need it during the work day.

Anna, Founder & HR Director

BE A SUPERBOSS | HBR IDEACAST | EPISODE— 509

In this podcast, Sydney Finkelstein, professor at the Steven Roth Professor of Management in Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business, describes the difference between a superboss and a good boss. The first one is that they do some of what good bosses do and more. The second one was so surprising and extraordinary for me and it is that superbosses are willing to let go good talent. Something that good bosses do not want to do. Superbosses want people to grow and if the current company is hindering that growth in any way, they refuse to keep that employee for their convenience. Phenomenal and eye-opening insight. Thank You Sydney and Thank You HBR.

We cannot stop raving about this practice. Try it and you will love it for it is an incredible opportunity to learn.
